Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, 2 January 2026 — Waigani Christian College has officially opened admissions for the 2026 academic year, offering Papua New Guinean students the opportunity to attain internationally recognised qualifications from Philippine Christian University (PCU), accredited by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST).
Through its partnership with Philippine Christian University, Waigani Christian College delivers globally recognised tertiary programmes locally, enabling students to pursue quality higher education without the financial and social costs associated with overseas study.
The College said its approach to education extends beyond academic achievement.
“Education is about developing the whole person — intellectually, ethically and spiritually,” the College said. “Our mission is to nurture Christ-centred, transformational leaders who are grounded in strong values and equipped to contribute meaningfully to Papua New Guinea’s development.”

Second-Chance Pathways and Holistic Education
Waigani Christian College embraces a ‘second chance’ education philosophy, providing supportive pathways for students who may have faced challenges or interruptions in their previous education.

BACKGROUND
Waigani Christian College was formally elevated to university status in December 2025 following a landmark partnership with Philippine Christian University, marking a major milestone for private higher education in Papua New Guinea.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Hon. Kinoka Feo, during the official launch of the PCU–WCC partnership at the Waigani campus.
Minister Feo confirmed that the institution’s recognition followed a rigorous and lawful approval process, with no exemptions or shortcuts.
“University is the highest level of education in the country, and it must follow the law,” the Minister said at the time.
He confirmed that PCU was granted official registration as a recognised higher education provider in Papua New Guinea for a four-year period from 26 November 2025 to 26 November 2029, allowing students to complete full university qualifications locally.
Minister Feo said the partnership helps address PNG’s ongoing higher education capacity challenge, with tens of thousands of Grade 12 school-leavers each year competing for limited university spaces.
He also highlighted the role of technology-enabled learning, noting that PCU supports more than 75,000 students across 35 countries, demonstrating the scalability of blended and online education models.
College Principal Abakure Kaupa said the recognition allows students to transition directly from secondary education into university-level studies at Waigani Christian College, while Founder Hon. Benjamin Mul described the achievement as a significant contribution to education access in the National Capital District and beyond.
Plans are underway to expand the PCU–WCC model to other centres, including Lae, Goroka and Chimbu, to further support students who miss out on limited university placements.
