New Kavieng business arm to be considered

JULY 5 2022

The Kavieng District Development Authority (KDDA) will assess thoroughly, the viability of establishing a new business arm after the 2022 General Election.

The announcement was made after casting his vote at Utukul Island, Ward 1-Tikana LLG, today by the KDDA Chairman and Pangu Pati’s Kavieng MP and Treasurer Hon. Ian Ling-Stuckey.

Kavieng MP Hon. Ian Ling-Stuckey casting his vote today on Utukul Island.

He said despite the DDA Act of 2014, S(7) (2) (e), allowing for the establishment of a business arm, there were positive and negative aspects that had to be carefully considered.

“I have always held the view that as a general rule, governments should not be involved in operating businesses, unless there were exceptional circumstances that justified it” said the Kavieng MP and Pangu Pati MP.

“The establishment of DDAs have completely changed the way in which governments operate in the province and districts, and rightfully or wrongfully, business arms have become their common partners throughout PNG today.”
