Agriculture and Livestock Minister Hon. John Simon says there is a lot in terms of agriculture that Papua New Guinea can learn from Bangladesh.

He said this after returning from the 36th Asia Pacific Regional Conference  (APRC) of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Minister Simon, who visited rice fields in Bangladesh during his visit, said PNG could also learn a lot from Bangladesh in terms of law-and-order.
“Bangladesh, with a population of 180 to 190 million, and a land size of just 160, 000 square km, has people who really behave,” he said.
“In everything you do, law-and-order is very important, and Bangladesh is very good at maintaining this.
” The people there respect each other. “
Minister Simon said this good law-and-order led to increased agriculture production for Bangladesh.
” Bangladesh got its indepence in 1971, four years ahead of PNG, but much more advanced in agriculture than us,” he said.
” We in PNG have massive arable land for agriculture, meaning we can be food-sufficient, as well as supply the Asian market.
” We just need to learn from developing countries like Bagladesh, adapt some of the agriculture technologies they are using, the skills they have.”
