Maramuni in Enga is a place of towering mountains, meandering rivers, cascading waterfalls, and green virgin forests which teem with wildlife.
Amidst all these runs the 57km Maramuni Road, a lifeline to this cloud-covered Shangri-la between Enga and East Sepik, a land that time has forgotten.
On Friday, April 1, 2022, the Maramuni Road linking Maramuni to Wabag was opened by Prime Minister James Marape.
Building this road – which passes through some of the most rugged and difficult terrain in Papua New Guinea – has been no mean feat and is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of Wabag MP and Fisheries Minister Dr Lino Tom, and his team of skilled Engan operators and Department of Works and Highways, who have done the seemingly-impossible with a shoestring budget of only K15 million.
The people of Maramuni – since Independence from Australian in 1975 – have had to walk for several days to Wabag through high mountains and thick jungles for basis services such as health, education and others that we in town all take for granted.
Pasalagaus Station in Maramuni has an insanely steep airstrip which will test the best of PNG bush pilots.
