Early Childhood Care and Education Teachers College Opens Admissions for 2026 Intake

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, 2 January 2026 — The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Teachers College has officially opened admissions for its 2026 academic year, inviting applications from aspiring teachers committed to shaping the foundation years of learning for children across Papua New Guinea.

Approved by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST), the ECCE Teachers College offers a structured, two-year programme grounded in academic excellence, Christian values, and practical classroom experience.

The programme is guided by the Biblical principle: “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he shall not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6), reflecting the institution’s commitment to holistic education and moral development.

Comprehensive Training for Early Childhood Educators

The Year One programme introduces students to foundational skills, including academic English, early childhood education principles, digital literacy, phonics, Christian education, and curriculum design. Students also undertake a supervised teaching internship in preschool settings for children aged three to five years.

In Year Two, students progress to advanced studies in child development, research and practice, inclusive education, creative arts and play, assessment of learning, and partnerships with families and communities. The programme culminates in a teaching internship at elementary level, working with children aged six to eight years.

Admission Requirements

Prospective students are required to submit a duly completed application form, either on campus or via email, together with certified academic transcripts, three recent passport-size photographs, and a letter of recommendation from a recognised church leader, employer, or academic authority.

Applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5, with all academic records showing grades of C or better. Admission standards are subject to review in line with national higher education requirements.

Building the Future Through Education

The ECCE Teachers College aims to produce qualified, ethical, and skilled educators capable of nurturing young learners during their most critical developmental years. Graduates are equipped to serve in early childhood centres, schools, and community-based education programmes throughout the country.
